Grammie and Pops woke me up with a hand over my mouth. It was dark. It was always dark since the lights went out. It was still night time but people were outside yelling. Grammie kissed me and said they’d be right back – to listen to Danny. I could hear Pops whispering to Danny in the dark. There was a crack outside the window. Loud. Grammie kissed my forehead one more time and she and Pops tip-toed out.
